Host and Co-Host Training

Our meetings run like clockwork because we have amazing members who serve. We’ll show you the ropes so you can participate, with just a few requirements. All hosts and co-host need to be ASMM Home Group members.

Not sure you’re up for anything? Start with scribe — it’s easy and fun and you’ll get the hang of what’s up with other roles.

Pre-requisites…

The service roles are straightforward generally, and we’ll train you on how we do it at ASMM. There are a few things we have found that we ask for before offering training:

  • 30 Days sobriety (90 days for hosting)
  • Member of ASMM and attend meetings over 30 days
  • Member of our WhatsApp group
  • Access to a laptop or desktop computer (iPad or other tablet ok)

Role Descriptions

We have found that it makes sense to start with scribing — it gets you all set up and familiar with our process, and gives you a chance to see and remember who our regular attendees are so that we can maintain a safe and smoothly operating meeting.

After a few times being scribe, when you feel comfortable, you can be a guardian for a few more meetings. With that skill under your belt you’ll find you’re probably comfortable doing these roles when you’re ready. Hosting is a bit trickier as there are some more things to learn and figure out, but it’s really pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. We very often need substitute hosts, so if you’re up for it, this might a good way to see what it’s like. Then, as current host rotations end, if you’re able we would be thrilled to have you sign up for a slot!

  • Scribe (co-host)
    • No commitment, just offer to help as the meeting is starting
    • Add information to the meeting chat window (copy-paste)
    • Keep an eye out for inappropriate content
  • Guardian (co-host)
    • 30 Days sobriety
    • Member of ASMM and attend meetings over 30 days
    • No commitment, just offer to help before the meeting starts
    • Screen the meeting waiting room and admit participants
    • Keep an eye out for the occasional disruptor and remove them
  • Host
    • 90 days of sobriety
    • 2- to 6-month commitment (one day a week, swap or get fill-in as needed)
    • Start the meeting Zoom room
    • Present the meeting script and other materials
    • Call on members who want to share
